Week 7 (Part 2): Classes, Midterms, and an ISA band? -- 3/8 to 3/10/16

This week has been going great and of course quite busy. After class Monday and Tuesday, I was able to show my friend Matt Zients (from my Rustic Pathways trip) around Granada! I took him around the city pointing out all of the things I have learned during my time here so far. He came to have lunch with my host family, and then we spent the next couple hours seeing the old town (Albacín), the area around the Alhambra, and my favorite spot to watch the sunset (Plaza Mirador de San Nicolas). He is now on a farm just outside of Málaga working on his Spanish for the next week! Always good to see Rustic friends!

Also this week one of my directors asked if some of the kids in our ISA group could start a band to possibly to a benefit concert in April for a volunteer day. So we got a couple guitarrists and some singers and now we have a band of seven people! The project is a little ambitious as we only have four weeks to ready an hour set of songs for the concert, but hopefully we'll be able to make it work: more on that later!

Anyway, a couple of days ago some of my friends and I went up to this spot right by the Alhambra which overlooks the city and the Sierra Nevada mountains. It was a perfect spot to watch the sunset and play some relaxing guitar, and it has definitely made my top five spots in Granada because you get a full 180 degree view of the city, the mountains, and some of the Alhambra. We're headed back there this weekend to picnic to so definitely some pictures to come!

Anyway this weekend I am spending here in Granada and I am hoping that it will give me chance to do some studying for my midterms, but also to prepare for the next couple of weeks of travelling (Morocco and el Camino de Santiago de Compostela) that I'll be doing. Also there is going to be a bull fight on Sunday, so I think I am obligated to go and see for myself what it's like! I am a little concerned about the brutal torture of the bull during these fights, but I know that it is definitely a cultural event that I should witness while here.

Here are some pictures from the week though!

Hope you enjoyed! More to come!
